What it is about
Ozone therapy – briefly explained
Ozone is a high-energy form of oxygen. In dentistry it is applied locally as a gas or as ozonised water: it destroys germs, promotes blood circulation and supports wound healing – without resistance, without residue.
Typical applications in our practice include supportive treatment of inflamed gums and periodontitis, disinfection of periodontal pockets, use after surgical procedures and tooth extractions, treatment of small inflamed areas in the mouth, support for wound healing, and complementary use in implant treatments.

What patients ask us
What is ozone therapy at the dentist and how does it work?
Ozone therapy uses medical ozone in a targeted, localised way in the mouth. Ozone has a strong oxidising effect that can reduce the number of germs in the treated area. In dentistry, we use ozone to complement disinfection and support various treatments.
What dental problems is ozone therapy used for?
Ozone therapy can be used for inflamed gums and periodontitis, disinfecting periodontal pockets, after surgical procedures and tooth extractions, and as a complement to implant treatments, among other applications.
Can ozone therapy help with periodontitis and gum inflammation?
For periodontitis and gum inflammation, ozone can be used to complement professional cleaning. The goal is to reduce the bacterial load in inflamed areas and periodontal pockets. Ozone therapy does not replace the necessary mechanical cleaning and periodontitis treatment, but complements it.
Can ozone treat caries without drilling?
For very early, superficial carious changes, ozone can be used to reduce germs and combined with suitable remineralisation measures. If a larger defect has already formed in the tooth, ozone cannot replace a necessary filling. In such cases, we may use it as a complement to disinfection.
