Ceramic implants – metal-free tooth replacement made of zirconia

White instead of grey, ceramic instead of titanium: zirconia implants are completely metal-free, highly biocompatible and aesthetically superior. For us, they are standard, not the exception.

What it is about

Ceramic implants – briefly explained

Zirconia is a high-performance ceramic material that has proven itself in medicine for decades – for example in artificial hip joints. In dentistry it achieves the strength of titanium but releases no metal ions, conducts no electrical current and accumulates less plaque. This reduces the risk of peri-implantitis and allows the gum to heal more healthily.

Aesthetically, no grey rim shows through – an advantage especially in the front-tooth area. For people with metal intolerance, ceramic is often the only option. Dr. Siouri holds a Master's in implantology and oral surgery and a doctorate in implantology; patients travel from across German-speaking Switzerland for biological implantology.

In detail

Immediate or later – two paths

Directly after tooth extraction

Immediate implantation

The implant is placed in the same session – shorter overall duration, fewer procedures, preservation of bone and gum.

  • One procedure
  • Short treatment time
  • Good starting conditions required
After healing

Late implantation

In cases of inflammation or insufficient bone, the site heals first; bone augmentation with biological materials and PRF if needed.

  • Reliable starting position
  • Bone augmentation possible
  • PRF support

Frequently asked questions

What patients ask us

Which is better: ceramic or titanium implant?

Both achieve comparable success rates. Ceramic (zirconia), however, is completely metal-free, releases no ions, conducts no electrical current, accumulates less plaque and does not shimmer grey through the gum. That is why ceramic implants are our standard, not the exception.

Can ceramic implants break?

Earlier generations were more prone to fracture – modern zirconia implants match the strength of titanium and have been used for decades in artificial hip joints as well. Fracture rates are no longer a relevant concern today.

Who are ceramic implants especially suited for?

For everyone – but they are essential for people with metal intolerance or titanium allergy, and especially worthwhile for autoimmune conditions, high aesthetic demands in the front-tooth area, or the wish for a completely metal-free mouth.

How long does it take from implant to finished crown?

Healing (osseointegration) takes three to six months – usually with a temporary restoration, so no visible gap remains. The individual all-ceramic crown is then fitted.

Can the implant be placed right after tooth extraction?

Often yes – given good conditions, we place the ceramic implant in the same session (immediate implantation). This saves a procedure and preserves bone and gum.

What if there is not enough bone?

Then we build up the bone in a targeted way – with biological materials and PRF from your own blood, without foreign material wherever possible. The 3D CBCT scan shows in advance exactly how much bone is present.
