Orthodontics – briefly explained
Tooth and jaw misalignments are part of our daily work – in children with mixed dentition as lack of space or crossbite, in adults as crowding, gaps or relapse after earlier braces. At our practice in Freienstein we offer orthodontic diagnostics and treatment for all age groups: early treatment with removable appliances for children, fixed braces (multiband) for precise corrections in the permanent dentition, and invisible aligner therapy for teenagers and adults.
With children we often work in two phases: first a removable appliance guides jaw growth, later multiband or aligners fine-tune the individual teeth – shorter and simpler than waiting.

Removable appliances
Expansion plates, activators, bionators and habit trainers create space, correct crossbite or overbite and use natural growth – worn in the evening and at night, taken out for eating and brushing.

Brackets and archwire move the teeth precisely and around the clock – the most reliable choice for severe crowding, rotations and closing gaps. With tooth-coloured ceramic brackets on request.

What patients ask us
When should my child have a first orthodontic check?
At around six years, when the first permanent teeth come through. We check the change of dentition at every children’s appointment and tell you whether anything needs doing.
Will my child still need fixed braces after a removable appliance?
Often yes, but considerably shorter and simpler. The first phase solves the growth problem, the second phase fine-tunes the teeth. Sometimes the first phase is already enough.
Fixed braces or aligners – which is better?
That depends on the findings. Aligners are invisible and comfortable, but limited to mild and moderate misalignments. Fixed braces work around the clock and manage difficult movements too. We show you both routes with duration and costs.
Am I too old for tooth correction?
No – healthy teeth and gums can be moved at any age. Adults mostly choose aligners or ceramic brackets because they are barely noticeable.
Does the health insurance pay?
Basic insurance only for severe misalignments recognised as a congenital defect. Many supplementary dental insurances for children contribute. We prepare the cost estimate and the documents for the coverage request.
